Non-urgent advice: Frequently Asked Questions
Why are GP surgeries moving to online consultations?
With the new GP contract changes, we must offer online access during core hours (08:00-18:00). Our goal is to provide the best service while managing more requests. Ensuring our practice is accessible online is a key part of this plan. We encourage all patients to use our new triage system, SystemConnect, for their requests.
What is triaging, and why is it so important?
‘Triage’ is a first assessment of patients. It helps us decide the urgency of your need for treatment and the type of care required. We will use the details from your online form. This helps us know when to reach out and which healthcare professional suits you best.
What is SystemConnect?
SystemConnect is an NHS Data Security and Protection (DSP) approved tool. It links you to your general practice care team without involving any middlemen. It asks you important questions about your condition. Then, it sends the information to the Duty Team for triage.
What if I cannot use SystemConnect?
We know some patients might not have internet access or face other challenges. If you can’t use our online forms, please call the practice as usual. Our reception team will ask you questions and handle your triage request.
Why can't I book a GP appointment?
Demand for GP appointments often exceeds our available capacity. We have a good number of GPs, but we must prioritise appointments for those who need them most. Our GPs now team up with other healthcare professionals. We match your issue to the right expert based on your answers.
Why is it not always possible for me to see my usual GP?
Each patient has a ‘usual GP’ for admin reasons. Yet, it’s not always possible to see your usual GP for every appointment. We aim for continuity of care when needed, but sometimes it’s not workable. You can feel at ease because our team communicates well. The GP you see can reach out to your usual GP if needed.
Non-urgent advice: What happens after submitting?
We will review your consultation within three working days. After that, we will contact you with the suggested plan.
Here are some possible outcomes:
-
The Duty GP may give advice or a prescription based on your consultation. You might receive a text message, or our team may call you on the day to inform you of the outcome.
-
For an urgent appointment, you’ll get a same-day consultation. This can be by phone or in person, depending on what you need. If you need a same-day appointment, please arrive at the scheduled time.
-
For regular GP appointments, you'll get a text with a ‘self-book’ link to pick a time that suits you. Alternatively, our admin team can call to set this up for you.
-
Some patients might need a blood test. This can help assess their issue or assist the GP before their routine appointment. We will send a text with a ‘self-book’ link, or our admin team will call to book this for you.
-
Another healthcare professional may offer you an appointment. You’ll get a text with a ‘self-book’ link, or the team will let you know they'll contact you.
-
Some patients may need a referral to another service, such as the pharmacy. This occurs when the triage team believes your medical issue suits their assessment and treatment. We will notify you by text message.
